Raising Stewards, Not Just Children: Teaching Our Kids to Faithfully Care for What God Entrusts
Motherhood has a funny way of revealing just how much responsibility God places in our hands. We don’t just raise children—we steward souls.
From the very beginning, Scripture makes it clear that everything belongs to the Lord, and we are entrusted with caring for what is His. That includes our homes, our finances, our bodies… and yes, our children.
Teaching stewardship is not about creating perfect kids or micromanaging behavior. It’s about preparing our sons and daughters to become Christ-following adults who understand that their lives are not their own.
What Is Stewardship?
Biblical stewardship is faithfully managing what God has entrusted to us for His glory.
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1
A steward does not own—they care for, protect, grow, and give an account.
Jesus taught stewardship constantly through parables:
-
The Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30)
-
The Faithful Servant (Luke 12:42–48)
-
The Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24–27)
Stewardship touches every area of life—not just money.
Stewardship Starts at Home
God places the primary responsibility of discipleship on parents:
“These commandments… impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road…” — Deuteronomy 6:6–7
The goal isn’t just obedience—it’s formation. We are shaping hearts, habits, and convictions that will guide our children long after they leave our homes.

A Final Encouragement to Moms
You are not just raising children.
You are training stewards of God’s kingdom.
Every conversation, correction, prayer, and example matters more than you realize.
“Let us not grow weary of doing good…” — Galatians 6:9
God sees your faithfulness.
And He is writing a legacy through your obedience.
Closing Prayer
Lord,
Help us to steward well the children You have entrusted to us.
Give us wisdom, patience, and courage to teach truth in a confusing world.
Write Your Word on our hearts and on the hearts of our children.
May they grow to love You deeply, walk in responsibility, and live for Your glory.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
